The Data
Where does FindYourU get its data?

School reports pull from four public sources: the U.S. Department of Education College Scorecard (enrollment, tuition, graduation rates, median earnings, debt), Google Maps (ratings and reviews), Walk Score (walkability, transit, and bike scores), and Open-Meteo (5-year climate averages). Campus life insights are synthesized from publicly available information and may not reflect current conditions.

How current is the data?

School data is cached for up to 30 days. Each report shows the data date at the top. You can force a fresh pull anytime using the 'Refresh data' button on any school report page. The College Scorecard is updated annually by the federal government — so some figures like median earnings reflect the most recent available cohort, not the current graduating class.

Why does a school's data look different from what their website says?

College websites often show their most favorable numbers. FindYourU uses federal data reported directly to the Department of Education, which follows standardized definitions. For example, 'graduation rate' here means students who finished in 4 years — not the 6-year rate schools sometimes highlight. Discrepancies are usually a matter of which metric is being shown, not an error.

Does FindYourU include community colleges or trade schools?

Not yet. FindYourU currently focuses on 4-year U.S. colleges and universities. Community colleges and trade programs are not in the matching system, though we plan to add them in a future update.

The Products
What's the difference between the Free Quiz and Full Profile Match?

The Free Quiz is 8 questions and takes about 2 minutes. It returns 3 ranked school matches plus a wildcard pick. Full Profile Match is 30 questions covering major, GPA, budget, goals, social preferences, first-gen status, work plans, and more. It returns 5 schools scored against your actual profile using real federal data, a comparison table, a wildcard, and a personalized counselor summary. Full Profile Match is a one-time $29.99 purchase.

What is My Schools?

My Schools lets you compare up to 5 schools side by side. If you already have a list of schools you're considering, you add them, and the tool generates full reports on each with a side-by-side comparison table, climate and Walk Score data per city, a wildcard recommendation, a family ranking worksheet, and downloadable PDFs. It's a one-time $19.99 purchase.

Can I retake the quiz?

Yes. The free quiz can be retaken anytime — results save to your dashboard if you're signed in. Full Profile Match can also be retaken if your priorities change; your previous results stay saved in your dashboard.

Are the school reports really free?

Yes. Searching any school and reading its full report — including campus life insights, cost data, Walk Score, climate, and nearby places — is completely free. No account required. Creating an account (also free) lets you save reports to your dashboard.

No. FindYourU does not sell personal information to third parties and does not use your data to serve advertising.

Is FindYourU safe for students under 18?

FindYourU is designed for high school students and their families. We do not knowingly collect personal information from users under 13. If you are under 13, please have a parent or guardian create an account. Quiz answers do not require entering a student's name — only preferences and academic information.

How do I delete my account?

Email support@findyouru.com and we will delete your account and all associated data. We aim to process deletion requests within 5 business days.

For Families
Is FindYourU affiliated with any colleges?

No. FindYourU is completely independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by, or funded by any educational institution. Data comes from federal and public sources only.

How is this different from College Board, Niche, or Naviance?

Most college search tools either show raw rankings, rely heavily on advertising revenue from schools, or require a counselor to administer. FindYourU is built for families to use directly. The matching quiz goes beyond size and location to ask about work needs, first-generation status, social preferences, and dealbreakers — then scores schools against federal data, not editorial opinion. School reports show the numbers colleges sometimes bury, including median debt and 10-year earnings.

Can we use this together as a family?

That's exactly what it's designed for. The Full Profile Match includes a family ranking worksheet where students, parents, and other family members can each score schools 1–10 and add notes — then compare. The My Schools comparison tool is built for the moment a family sits down to actually decide.
